Masumizu Kōgen Tenkū Lift (Sky Lift)

A scenic lift ride to a panoramic observation deck with views stretching to the Sea of Japan—a certified "Sanctuary for Lovers" and a prime sunset spot.

About this place

The Masumizu Kōgen Tenkū (Sky) Lift is a green-season lift that traverses the Masumizu Plateau on the western slopes of Mt. Daisen. It operates during the green season (April to mid-November), carrying guests on an approximately eight-minute aerial journey to the summit observation deck at 900 m elevation.

From the observation deck, a sweeping panorama unfolds encompassing both Mt. Daisen's profile and the Sea of Japan; on clear days the Oki Islands are visible in the distance. Certified as a "Lovers' Sanctuary" (Koibito no Seichi) in 2006, the deck features a heart-shaped monument, and specially decorated couple's seats are available on the lift—establishing the site as one of the most romantic scenic spots in the San'in region.

The lift is one of the longest sightseeing lifts in the Chūgoku region, and pets are welcome to ride. In winter, the same area operates as a snow park. The site is about 20 minutes by car from the center of Houki-chō and pairs naturally with a broader Daisen sightseeing itinerary.
