Shimane Winery

A tourist winery just five minutes from Izumo Taisha, offering free tastings and a relaxed stop for souvenirs.

About this place

Shimane Winery is a tourist-friendly winery located about five minutes by car from Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine, producing wines from locally grown Shimane grapes. The winemaking process is open for free guided tours, and at the tasting and sales hall 'Bacchus,' visitors can sample around nine varieties of wine and grape juice at no charge before purchasing their favorites on the spot.

The complex also includes a restaurant, a barbecue area, and a souvenir shop, making it a popular post-shrine stop for families and adult groups alike. The restaurant menu features dishes making full use of local Shimane ingredients.

While the winery is accessible by bus from Izumotaisha-mae Station, a car is the most convenient option. Many tourists pick up a bottle of Shimane wine as a souvenir, and the winery is counted among the popular spots within the Japan Heritage area known as 'Izumo, the Sacred Land of the Setting Sun.'
