Tottori City Hot spring

Shikano Onsen

A tranquil hot spring paired with a historic castle town associated with the Sengoku warrior Yamanaka Shikanosuke.

About this place

Shikano Onsen is a hot spring that wells up in Shikano-cho, a mountain-ringed town in the southwestern part of Tottori City. Located on the northern foothills of Mount Washi within the Nishi-Inaba Prefectural Natural Park, its mild simple spring water is said to be effective for neuralgia and fatigue relief. Hot spring bathing is available at multiple facilities, including the spa center 'Hot Pia Shikano' and the garden open-air baths of local inns.

Shikano is also a place closely associated with the Sengoku warrior Yamanaka Shikanosuke, and the vestiges of a castle town laid out by Shikano Castle lord Kamei Shigenori still remain in the townscape today. The streets lined with whitewashed earthen storehouses and lattice-windowed merchant houses create a relaxed atmosphere perfect for a leisurely stroll, and the combination of hot springs and historic town walking is the defining appeal of this destination.

Approximately 20 minutes by car from JR Tottori Station. Foot baths are also provided near Hot Pia Shikano and the inn 'Kokumin Shukusha Senshien,' making it easy to stop in for a soak during a walk around town.
