Daisen Yūzen Dyeing — Atelier Kawahara

A craft studio where visitors can experience the traditional art of Yūzen hand-painted silk dyeing.

About this place

Daisen Yūzen Dyeing — Atelier Kawahara is a dyeing studio set within the Ainopia Pension Village at the foot of Mt. Daisen in Hōki-chō, Tottori. The studio is run by a husband-and-wife duo who trained in Kyoto's dyeing traditions, and it operates as 'Somehime' — a combined workshop and café gallery.

Daisen Yūzen is a Tottori craft tradition that uses hand-painted Yūzen techniques together with the renowned pure water and natural surroundings of Mt. Daisen. Products range from kimonos to everyday accessories such as silk stoles and handkerchiefs. Both plant-based and chemical dye workshops are available and can be booked on a rolling basis.

Surrounded by the nature of Mt. Daisen, visitors can enjoy coffee brewed with local spring water while admiring the works on display, or try their hand at creating a one-of-a-kind dyed piece. The studio is accessible by car from the Mizoguichi IC on the Yonago Expressway, heading toward Mt. Daisen.
